Bernard Lucas (Ben) Feringa is full Professor of organic chemistry at the University of Groningen and the Jacobus H. van't Hoff Distinguished Professor of Molecular Sciences. He was also elected elected Foreign Honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and member and vice-president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. Feringa's research has been recognized with many awards and in 2016 with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, together with Sir J. Fraser Stoddart and Jean-Pierre Sauvage, "for the design and synthesis of molecular machines." His research interests include stereochemistry, organic synthesis, asymmetric catalysis, optopharma, molecular switches and motors, self-assembly and molecular nanosystems. Websites
